Is Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase or PTPN1 a key gene in undertanding human insulin metabolism? - key gene...]]
Protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) are a group of enzymes that remove a phosphate group of phosphorylated tyrosine residues in proteins.
In addition to tyrosine kinases, PTP regulate the phosphorylation of many important signaling molecules such as MAP kinase family.
PTP is increasingly perceived as part of the cascade of signal transduction, although little studied and poorly understood tyrosine kinases.
PTP was involved in the regulation of many cellular processes, including growth, but not limited to: (1) cells, (2) cell differentiation, (3) cycles of mitosis and oncogenic transformation (4).
